Are there any "MUST SEES" for folks?

I can vouch for American Fusion, a romantic comedy about a dysfunctional, Chinese American family.

Of course, I also want to see James Shigeta live in the flesh after Crimson Kimono.

Any thing else folks highly recommend or are excited about?

Awesome! Third Thursdays is a community co-presenter for American Fusion, and I'm looking to forward to seeing it, especially since the late Pat Morita is in the film.

I am doing press screenings, so I'll post some favorites as I watch them...

Just saw the shorts program "The Life Quixotic" - highly charged with sexual energy, from the lustful, schmaltzy, politicized, and every other angle you can imagine.

ONE NOTE THAT THE PROGRAM MISSES: You Trekkie Fans out there will want to see "My Prince, My Angel" which stars Linda Park (Hoshi of Star Trek: Enterprise), who also produced this short film (in Korean with ES).

Cafe Lumiere I'm extremely excited about, a Hou Hsiao-hsien movie set in Japan? I'm there.

I'm placing a bet on Colma: The Musical. The concept is strange enough to be a fount of real creative inspiration, and I'm a sucker for musicals and graveyards.

    Red Doors looks really good.

I think I'm only going to have time for one Tibetan movie this year: and I'm trying to decide between Dreaming Lhasa, and impossible to spell Kekexili.

American Fusion. I want to see it, but it's scheduled against 3 moves that I want to see on Wednesday the 22nd; otherwise it's the early show at noon on Saturday. Which I'm resisting because Saturday will be a long day if I start that early.

Does American Fusion have distribution? It's easier to skip a movie if I know there's a chance to see it later.

American Fusion is also showing down at San Jose...

Also, just to motivate you, AF was screened earlier this year "for members only" as a promo for the festival - so join the Center to get this and other benefits :-)

I'm a member... and iw as out of town for the screening...

and I can't make the San jose screening.

I'll be going to at least 10 movies during the festival. My problem is one of time and schedule, not will to go see movies ....

They should launch a "Festival On Demand" service, nick-named "FOD", that will stream their programs online after the Festival has run its course. If you pay for 3 films during the Festival, you get a free subscription.

      Hi Phil,

American Fusion does not yet have distribution, though (as is the case with all of our films) we do hope that some savvy distributor will catch the buzz on it and bring it nationwide.

If they do get a deal, I'm sure you'll read about it here, at their official site.

I'm really looking forward to Cafe Lumiere too. I'm a big fan of both Hou and Ozu. Be With Me sounds good, too.

I don't want to miss Memoirs of a Sudoku Superstar either. One of the shorts is by James T. Hong. He's fascinating.

And of course, how can I pass up a movie called Colma: The Musical?

I saw Crimson Kimono years ago at the Seattle asian american film festival.

Not only was it a groundbreaking film, but it's also a good example of period filmnoir and the early work of Sam Fuller.

I saw Justin Lin's "Finishing the Game" at a festival during the spring. He said it's getting distribution this fall, so look out for it. I wouldn't say it was a super great film, but I liked how it was done, and it's a mockumentary which is a rare genre.
